Autumn Purple Ash growths. #874677

Our Autumn Purple Ash has green growths on it this year. They are a little smaller than a baseball and looked like crunched up leaf material. The tree has the usual green healthy leaves on it too. Do I need to treat this tree for these growths? Thank you.

Hi Laura,
The symptoms on your Purple Ash appear consistent with damage to the Male ash flowers cause by Ash Flowergall Mite (a microscopic insect). For confirmation, you can bring a branch sample to the Jeffco Extension Plant Diagnostic Help Desk ($20 fee).
