Is July too late to use Cyd-X for coddling moth control #874672

Asked June 25, 2024, 4:32 PM EDT

This spring retailers for Cyd-X only had large containers suitable for commercial orchards. Smaller containers for home gardens are now available, but I'm wondering if it's too late to obtain any benefit from using it. Last year our apple and pear trees were loaded, but the fruits were so riddled with worms that they were completely unusable. This despite the fact that we had thinned the developing fruit on the trees and consistently cleaned up the fallen fruit. If using Cyd-X this late in the season could help reduce the coddling moth population for next year, I'd give it a try. (Our trees have a heavy crop again this year, and I haven;t noticed a lot of worm holes as I thinned the fruit).

Hi Carolyn,
It definitely seems as if you have done your research in regards to your fruit trees and the codling moth! I am attaching a fact sheet specific to the codling moth.

This fact sheet discusses numerous management methods both pesticide and non pesticide. It details when you should consider application of pesticides and the timing of those applications. As with the application of any pesticide, it is important to read the label on the bottle thoroughly and use the product exactly according to that label.
Best of luck to you,
