Leader on tree is dead #874610

The leader in this oak tree is dead. Will the tree continue to grow normally or does it need to be replaced?

The tree doesn't need to be replaced, but judicious pruning is needed to improve its form and establish a new leader.

It may be best to hire a certified arborist to do the work.  If you decide to do that, the following information may be useful:

Prune the oak only during oak wilt safe season--November through March.
