Hi David. Amereican Burnwood is considered a weed. Per this brief discussion by University of Maryland Extension, it can be manually dug up or pulled, https://extension.umd.edu/resource/american-burnweed/ Be sure to try to get rid of it before the seeds form.
Here is more information from West Virginia Extension, https://extension.wvu.edu/lawn-gardening-pests/weeds/american-burnweed, and Fairfax County Master Gardeners, recommending you pull it out even if you like the look of it, https://fairfaxgardening.org/american-burnweed/#:~:text=Even%20if%20you%20are%20in,that%20are%20spread%20by%20wind.
