Wine grape plants hardly growing - Ask Extension
We have approximately 40 established wine vines and a few of them are struggling to grow. The others are healthy. Any ideas on how to treat them?

We have approximately 40 established wine vines and a few of them are struggling to grow. The others are healthy. Any ideas on how to treat them?

If the 40 vines express symptoms like the images you attached, then this is due to herbicide exposure. Grapevines are sensitive to certain classes of herbicides, and it leads to leaf deformation as shown in the image. Often, these herbicides are not used in vineyards and may drift in from use in roadsides, landscapes, and other sources. The way to treat these vines is to ensure that they have what they need to grow healthy this season. If the exposure to herbicide was from off-site/non-target application, then the vines will grow out of it, meaning the new growth will not exhibit these symptoms. If there was direct application of a systemic herbicide in the plant growth regulator classes of compounds, then the damage could persist on new growth.
