Carnival Watermelon Coral Bells Sun Tolerance #874468

Asked June 24, 2024, 3:09 PM EDT

We've read opposing descriptions for the sun tolerance of Carnival Watermelon Coral Bells from one end of the spectrum (full shade) to the other (full sun). We live on the west side of Colorado Springs at the base of the foothills. The climate, as you know, is dry and very hot this time of year. We do have some shady areas in our back yard, but there are brief periods of times during the summer months that there is absolutely no shade available. These plants have shown some great resilience, but we'd like to give them the best chance to thrive. So, any recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks!

Good morning Brian,

Thank you for your question regarding sun tolerance for Carnival Watermelon Coral Bells.

Coral Bells can perform well in environments ranging from full sun to partial shade, but it does perform best in partial shade. Particularly given the intense sun at our altitude, to ensure the best chance for survival, you might consider moving the plant to a location that does not receive direct sunlight during the height of summer.

Happy Gardening!
