Invasive pea #874446

Asked June 24, 2024, 1:59 PM EDT

Hello I have a hobby Farm in Chisago County with a 30 acre area of meadow, and patches of what appear to be a type of wild pea seem to be spreading. It grows very dense and thick strangling everything around it. The bees seem to like its pink flowers. My question is should I attempt to eradicate it or just control it or is this a benefit to the land, do animals like it, vs is it a concern? Thank You!

Expert Response

We can't be sure by viewing the photos, but we think the plant may be Lathyrus sylvestris (narrow-leaved everlasting pea).

Compare here and see what you think:

The plant is considered invasive in some places, but it isn't widespread in Minnesota.
