Starting a bee hive #874388

Asked June 24, 2024, 9:57 AM EDT

Are there Extension/other local hands-on resources for how to start a backyard bee colony? Im in Kent and I am looking for a bee mentor to start the process in the next year or so.

Hello Sarah! You need to register your hive(s) with ODA. I suggest you also link with a local bee club or association. Many offer training for new beekeepers as well as mentoring to help get you started.

Both links can be found here: https://u.osu.edu/beelab/getting-started-with-honey-bees-in-ohio/

The OSU Bee Lab website has lots of information on creating pollintor habiat, as well as an extensive archive of webinars related to honey bees and other pollinators.

Same website, just the home link: https://u.osu.edu/beelab/

Cheers!
