Boxwood Brown Spots #874348

Asked June 23, 2024, 8:50 PM EDT

Hello - I have a boxwood hedge consisting of 6-8 individual plants. There is some brown dying areas both on the top and on the sides as shown in the photos. The long horizontal band is from the side, the others photos are taken from the top down. There was some trimming done with an electric trimmer in the spring. Do you know what might be causing this and if it's curable? We have not seen this on these plants in the past. Thank you, Jeff SW Portland

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Jeff.  Your plants are showing symptoms of a root disease whose cause and treatment are described here:  https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/boxwood-buxus-spp-phytophthora-root-crown-rot

The only fungicides available to homeowners are marked "H".  Use per label directions. Good luck!
