For the last few years some kind of critter has been burrowing under our cement steps in the front of our house. I have repeatedly replaced the dirt, added gravel and placed large rocks. The critter is very persistent and recently has added another tunnel on the other side of the steps. I do not know that it is. I am looking for suggestions on how to deter the critter.
We live in the Williamstown Twp area in a relative rural area.

May be a groundhog. One of the more effective options is to use some fine mesh metal screen/fencing material, which can be purchased at a hardware and/or feed store. It is unsightly for a short time, but tends to be more effective than rocks and dirt. Cut some pieces to cover the effective areas. Metal stakes and large rocks can help keep in place during the process.
