Expert Response
We are glad you asked.
We are getting many concerned citizens questioning what they can spray to kill these new insects.
We actually do not recommend doing this.
The Spotted Lanternfly is a new arrival that is expected to be a nuisance but not terribly damaging. They do not bite or bother people.
Here is our page on them:

Similar to when the Brown Marmorated Stinkbug first arrived, their numbers will be high for a time until natural predators (birds, mammals, insects and diseases) recognize them as food and help keep their numbers down and indeed the areas of Maryland where they first arrived in large numbers are now seeing much less of them.
We do not recommend spraying for them, as this adds unnecessary pesticides to the environment, and this includes home remedies using soap, vinegar, or oil, which can do unintended harm to plants or non-target species.
If you can ignore them that is the best course at the moment.
