I have a Hibiscus laevis in my garden (planted spring 2023). It flowered last year and came up again this year but the leaves are getting destroyed by something. Any ideas about what could be causing the harm and how to treat?

My guess is four-lined plant bug. Check here:

Four-lined plant bugs have been active and feed on a wide variety of plants. The good news is that we are at the end of their feeding cycle.
Another possibility is the hibiscus sawfly. I've not heard of this pest here - it seems to be more of a southern problem - so the four-lined plant bug is more likely. With sawflies, again, the feeding is probably over with now. Read here about sawflies:
