Asked June 22, 2024, 7:22 PM EDT

Never saw this beetle before…usually have asiatic garden beetles but this is speckled & not coffee brown colored. It was in my potted petunias, but also was flying around our deck. Google image says anomala orientalis?? Thank you.

Expert Response

That's correct, Oriental Beetle. This one is often found around lights after dark and can also feed on a variety of plants. It doesn;t usually reach high numbers in the garden and can be hand-picked off plants. The larval life stage are grubs that can cause damage to lawns.
