Divide a Marnier's kalanchoe #874210

Asked June 22, 2024, 4:11 PM EDT

I didn't realize Marnier's kalanchoe grows and spreads really fast when I put it in a planter on my deck. It has more than quadrupled in size in a couple of months and is threatening to take over my garden box. Can I divide it to put some in other boxes? Is it really not suited for boxes/planters since it grows so fast? thanks, Elizabeth

Thank you for your questions, Elizabeth.  You can propagate this species, but using the plant's own offsets is the most reliable method.  Offsets are the "babies" that grow out from the base of the "mother" plant.  You can break them off, and root them elsewhere.. https://greg.app/propagate-marniers-kalanchoe/#:~:text=To%20prep%2C%20snip%20the%20leaf,practice%20the%20art%20of%20patience.

Whether they are appropriate for containers is really your call.  If you prefer a no-care, slow-growing, small plant, then probably not.  But, if you have enough friends and family to gift them to, these are perfect.  And its flowers are perfect!. https://www.gardenia.net/plant/kalanchoe-marnieriana-marnier-kalanchoe

Good luck!
