Ants on my pole beans #874195

Asked June 22, 2024, 2:41 PM EDT

Hello! While weeding today, I noticed a lot of ants running around, on and climbing the leaves of my pole beans. Any suggestions on how to handle them? Thanks!

Expert Response

Look for aphids on the underside of the plant leaves.  Aphids secrete honeydew which draws ants. A strong water spray repeated over a couple days usually gets rid of the aphids and ants.  See: https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/aphids
