red aphids on cup plants #874173

Asked June 22, 2024, 12:04 PM EDT

Hello, I have what I understand to be a common problem-red aphids on my cup plants. I've gotten two opinions about what to do. One says leave them alone, as they are food for ladybugs and baby hummingbird. The other says spray with a dish detergent mixture to protect the plants. Your thoughts. Thank you in advance. PS Overall, the plants are tall and appear healthy otherwise

Thank you for reaching out to ask2.extension.

Insecticidal soap will also work and so will spraying the aphids off of the plants with water.  Either way, Be sure to get both sides of the leaves..  If the aphids are killing your plant, go ahead and spray.  If they don’t seem to be really hurting the plants, you can leave them alone.

I hope this helps.
