miniature iris #874165

Asked June 22, 2024, 11:08 AM EDT

I have two different, small (4-6in) iris that grow from rhizomes rather than bulbs. One variety is mostly a dark blue/purple, and the other is basically white. I am trying to find more iris like them but am only finding very small iris that grow from bulbs. I have read about the difference between rhizomes and bulbs but it's quite beyond my understanding. Can an iris grown from a bulb ever become a rhizome? Do you know of an iris that is yellow, very small and that grows from rhizomes? Thank you for your consideration. I've tried to find more information on-line but it has only led to more questions.

Expert Response

The miniature Iris are Iris reticulata and they are exquisite. I wish I had more success growing them.
