My monarda are drying up and dying one-after-another sequentially #874145

Asked June 22, 2024, 2:27 AM EDT

The plants were stunted - only about 8" tall - but green. In just a few days a libe of 10-12 plants dried up in sequence. When I pulled the dead plant out, the roots looked like they were possibly eaten and covered in tiny white spots. In just a few day, another line of monarda approximately 2 ft away have begun exhibiting the same symptoms. What is causing this? I was going to plant more, but obviously not now. I'm also afraid to plant anything else in this area. What do you think is the cause and what should I do? Thank you for your help!

Thank you for writing.
The condition looks like root rot. Usually this is caused by wet soil that is poorly draining.
Send me a picture of the patch of plants.
Dump a half trowel of dirt on a paper towel and send me a picture.
