Soil nitrogen and ph #874138

Asked June 21, 2024, 8:08 PM EDT

My soil nitrogen tests keep coming up very low so I have been adding urea in liquid and/or granular form. Now my nitrogen still is quite low but my soil ph has dropped considerably as well. Is my nitrogen test possibly not reading correctly or?? Im not sure what to look at now, or what to add for a healthy vegetable crop.

A soil pH of 6.0 to 7.0 is best for vegetables.   If your soil pH is below 5.5 you could add lime to raise the pH.

Nitrogen can be leached out in soils that receive a lot of water and especially in sandy soils like those found on much of the coast.  You could try adding compost or slow release organic fertilizer to help retain nitrogen availability for vegetables.
