Hayfield Weed Management vs. Apiary #874124
Asked June 21, 2024, 5:39 PM EDT
Our neighbor's hayfield has become too weedy to hay for his cattle and he wants to do some remediation but he knows we have an apiary and has asked us for input before he does any spraying. Is there a resource that can help him to clean up his field with as little impact to our bees as possible? The worst offender is lupine. Some tansy has been seen and likely other weeds that I'm not aware of. Thank you!

Hi Brian,
Thanks for reaching out! I recommend your neighbor check out our publication on How to Reduce Bee Poisoning from Pesticides (https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/pub/pnw-591-how-reduce-bee-poisoning-pesticides). If he has any specific questions after reading through this publication, he can reach out to me– I’m the Small Farms Extension Agent for OSU in Lincoln County.
