Choke Cherry tree problem #874099

Asked June 21, 2024, 2:58 PM EDT

I noticed multiple oozing spots on some smaller Choke Cerry Trees in my yard. They are syrup-colored and over an opening in the bark. I live in Deschutes county at 4300 feet, on the river. I’m attaching close up pictures and the grouping of trees. The ones involved are in the center. Is this beetle infestation or the tree fighting off something?

Hi Mary Jo,

The images you sent look like gummosis which can be caused by different factors.  Here is some additional information on this problem:  https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/cherry-prunus-spp-gumming

Feel free to call me at the number below and we can further discuss.
