I'm hoping to collect columbine seed pods in the near future but there is a time issue with upcoming travel plans. They are still very green. If they haven't started yellowing or browning before I leave, can I collect a few pods and by just allowing them to dry, will the seeds still be OK. Usually I watch for the browning and I miss a few but can gather enough seeds for my purpose. I plan on sharing so it worries me they might be all self-sown before my return. Thank you.

No. Much like a tomato picked green and hard, those seeds won't "ripen". If they are yellowing and browning, you have a chance, but not if they are green:
