Fiddle leaf fig plant #874045

Asked June 21, 2024, 10:39 AM EDT

I have had two fiddle leaf fig plants potted together for 2 years . Last year /summer I repotted them in a larger pot as they were very root bound. Up until the past 4 days they have done really well with multiple new leaves appearing on both stems pretty equally. Now one stem has lowered leaves. I checked that side of the pot and it was significantly dryer on the meter on that side of the pot so I added water. No change . It is in the corner of a room that has east windows and a southern window. Could the extreme heat even though our house is air conditioned at 72 degrees cause the lowering leaves?

Expert Response

I see that some of the leaves are drooping and have brown patches.  Both conditions can result from dry soil that the plant experienced.  Some of the vascular tissue may have been stressed on that side of the pot.  It may take a little time for the plant to repair itself. You will probably loose these bottom leaves.

If your plant received intense direct sun, even in air conditioning, it may have suffered some sun damage.  Was the affected part of the plant facing the window?  If the sunlight is to intense, you may consider moving it.

Otherwise, you fig plant looks healthy and beautiful.
