Fatal blight on my kiwi #873980

Asked June 20, 2024, 4:42 PM EDT

I got what I think is bacterial blight on my kiwi plant. I tried to spray the recommended treatment. Nothing worked. It spread to the whole plant. I cut the plant back to just a stick. There is new growth though. My question is, can I allow the stick to grow and it will be successful or should I remove the entire thing?

Expert Response

Kiwi can have a lot of problems but the most common one is frost or freeze damage here in the PNW. Bacterial blight is certainly possible but once you have it there will be no treatments to cure it. Sounds like you have a little hope with some new growth. You could encourage it to grow and see what you get by the end of the year. Winter protection will be critical. You also might be more ahead just planting a new one.
