Expert Response

Based on the photo, your maple appears to have leaf scorch.  This can be caused by drought or heat stress. Not enough water reaches the leaf margin, or too much salt from overfertilization is concentrated in the leaf margins.

To control these symptoms:

Avoid reflected heat by avoiding planting next to buildings or paved walkways.  Also, avoid rock and black plastic mulches.

Wet the entire root zone when watering  but avoid overwatering.  The soil surface should feel dry but there should be moisture a couple of inches into the soil.  Provide good drainage.  Avoid compacting the soil.

Do not overfertilize.

Many of the leaves on the burning bush are chlorotic, indicating the need for a balanced fertilizer.  A slow release fertilizer would be best.

Practice less frequent deep watering rather than frequent  shallow watering and make sure your plant has good drainage.

Thank you for your question.
