I was digging up a dead clump of ornamental grass and found a bees nest under it. They looked like small bumble bees. I was stung on my gloved hand and one bee pushed me as I ran away. What kind of bee was it likely to be? There were ten or more in a clump under the grass clump.

Greetings,
Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately without a photograph we would not be able to identify. There are just too many possibilities for what it could be, as there are over 700 bee species (that we have identified thus far).
