Too much iron/sulphate on Armstong Maple tree. #873898

Asked June 20, 2024, 9:50 AM EDT

I was trying to help an Armstrong Maple tree that appeared chlorotic.  Showed it to a tree store and was told to use iron/sulphate.  I accidentally measured the diameter as circumference and used three times the amount I should have.  It is now turning bronze, which I expected.  Are there any steps to help this tree along.  Can it survive?

Expert Response

Hello,

I am enclosing a fact sheet on Leaf scorch. Unfortunately, the only recommendation would be to water deeply, and infrequently to help create a deep root system. Allow the soil to dry out in between waterings. Any parts that have been affected by leaf scorch will not turn green again. You can also consider contacting an arborist so they can assess the damage of the tree and if it is salvageable.
