Can someone please direct me to a good place to get soil testing for my orchard and garden?

Expert Response

I don't like having to tell you that the closest laboratory that currently does soil testing is located in the Salem area. Neilson laboratory in Medford does water testing, but not soil testing. if you  are gardening (food or flower) you can get a fairly decent idea of what's going on with your soils with a home testing kit. They are available at most nurseries and garden supply stores (Grange, Southern Oregon, Valley View and other nurseries.) Most cost around $20 and give you a pH (acid or base soil) and an idea of what may be lacking in minerals.

Thank you Marjorie. I have used the self testing kits. The soil testing in Salem that you mentioned, what is it called? Will the do tests through the mail?

Please contact the local Extension Services office. They can provide you with a current, up to date list of laboratories that do soil testing. The address is 569 Hanley Rd., Central Point. (located about 3 miles northwest of Jacksonville on Rte. 238). Perhaps yhou can get them to mail you a list. You can  call them at<personal data hidden> for hours of opertion.
