ID Yellow Buckeye disease #873726

Asked June 18, 2024, 10:05 PM EDT

I am trying to identify an issue with one of our yellow buckeye trees. It is two years old, started from seed, and this is the first time its had this color formation on the leaves. I was thinking viral since it follows the veins, but cannot find any images that look similar to this to ID the issue. It doesn't seem to be insect damage and is not spotty like leaf blotch. I also don't think the issues is heat/moisture because it is not uniform around the edges and not the same amount of damage on new and old leaves. Could you help me ID the issue and suggest a solution? Thanks!

Expert Response

Hello and thank you for reaching out to OSU Extension with your questions regarding your Yellow Buckeye trees.  It is quite difficult to diagnose what is going on with the trees by a photograph.

Please bring a sample branch to the Scioto County Extension office located at 602 Seventh Street, Room 7, Courthouse
Portsmouth, OH 45662.  The general office phone number is <personal data hidden>.

You will want to speak with Kane Lewis, Scioto County's Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Educator or at least leave the sample and a description of the issues for him in the event he is unavailable.

Kind regards,
Teresa Funk
