years ago, I cut out vines, pruned for person up the street--big dark apples
she moved, have intended to suggest/maybe offer at my age new folks to get rid of middle high growth, to put more into the fruit
w/ this heat & no rain, would pruning actually help the tree?

It is too late to prune now.
Major pruning should be done when the tree is dormant.
