Crabapple disease #873679

Asked June 18, 2024, 5:36 PM EDT

Each year, I struggle with scab or fungus with this crabapple that is 12-ish+ years old. This year it's really bad and needs help. I treat for borers also, but haven't this year. I've read there could be multiple treatments at different times for this problem. I've other crabs (different varieties) with no problems. Appreciate your expertise! Thx!

Expert Response

Apple scab on crabapples is the result of the wet weather we have been having.  It will not kill the tree, just look bad this year.
This first web page has a lot of information, however it may be too late to treat your tree this year. Your nonaffected trees may be resistent or have better air flow in their canopies.
