What is causing these diseases/issues to tree and bush? #873659

Asked June 18, 2024, 4:06 PM EDT

Yesterday, I was visited by someone fertilizing my lawn, and they noted that a couple trees/bushes on the property have diseases. I am trying to identify what is impacting them (burr oak tree & another bush). Attached are photos of the leaves and can send more via MSU Extension Bay County Office if needed. Thank you!

Expert Response

Hello John,

Your burr oak appears to have anthracnose, a disease which occurs in a number of different species. Read about Anthracnose and how to manage it here: https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/anthracnose-trees-and-shrubs

In most cases, it is not necessary to treat anthracnose as it will not have a long-lasting effect on the tree. A certified arborist can assess your tree. To find an arborist in your area, go to www.treesaregood.org, the website of the International Society of Arboriculture.
