Birdsfoot trefoil #873628

Asked June 18, 2024, 2:20 PM EDT

Hello, I am an Ecological Restorationist and one of my clients has birdsfoot trefoil (BT) in their savanna. At a recent Commercial Pesticide Applicator workshop, a UMN Extension turf expert let us know that BT can be knocked back in a lawn by increasing the amount of nitrogen in the soil. Seems like this should also work in a native area like a savanna, but I would like to know the rate of nitrogen application that would be most effective. Can you tell me how much nitrogen I should apply to this savanna to control this BT? Thank you.

Expert Response

Good Morning Martha,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

We are volunteers who answer yard and garden questions from the public.

We do not answer questions for commercial businesses.

You might follow up with the Pesticide Applicator people.
