Prairie Garden #873581

Asked June 18, 2024, 10:34 AM EDT

I have a PG in its 3rd year. This is the year it should leap. Well I have creeping charlie. LOTS & LOTS of CC. How do I erradicate? I have TerraVue yet that does not kill the CC. My area is too big to use a string trimmer. I'm at a loss. I'm afraid the seeds like coneflower & milkweed that have not emerged are getting smother out. I'm feeling very discouraged at trying to establish a prairie garden.

Expert Response

In my experience that once milkweed is established, it will spread by underground runners and be hard to control. As for Creeping Charlie, these web pages contain information on herbicides that may be used. In my garden, taller plants like iris, monarda, etc. will grow up in spite of the CC. Getting rid of it without damaging desired plants is difficult. The wet weather we have been having does not help. Good luck.
