I recently transplanted a chestnut tree that was too close to the house. Have been watering it daily. It appeared to be doing well, but now I’m noticing browning of some of the leaves mostly towards the top of the tree. Any advice?

Expert Response
Hi Sandy,
I'm not at all sure what is causing the browning on the leaf margins. My first guess would be transplant shock. It's going to take the tree some time to replace all the fine roots and get itself established. You might contact Bert Cregg (<personal data hidden>). He is a woody plant physiologist and may have some other ideas. I know I planted a chestnut tree on my property in Clinton County. That Clinton County clay was not good - chestnuts like sandy soil. My tree declined for a couple of years, then died. Hopefully you have a better site!

Thank you, Deb, for your answer. Will give the tree some time and hope for the best!
