I have a log of wood that would not completely split with a 22Ton log splitter, but it did put a dent in it. I am not sure on the type of tree as it came from a pile that the Board of water and light took down and there were no leaves or bark. Can you identify if I bring it in and is it possible it is partially petrified?

Expert Response
Petrified wood is not known to occur in Michigan. Unfortunately, we do not have any experts on Ask Extension that would be able to identify a wood sample.
