Linden tree leaves #873504

Asked June 17, 2024, 5:32 PM EDT

I planted a linden tree in the front yard and it seems that iit's leaves are eaten by some sort of bug that I cannot see. Please see the attached picture. I would very much appreciate if you can give me advice how to treat this tree. Thank you, Dan Vartolomei<personal data hidden> <personal data hidden>

Expert Response

Good Morning Dan,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

From viewing your leaf photos, the leaf damage appears minimal. Some of this could be from the driving wind and rains we've had lately. If your tree has been planted correctly and is otherwise thriving, this should not be a concern.

A layer of wood mulch, a few inches away from the trunk going out for a few feet will keep the soil moist, protect your tree from competing vegetation and protect the roots.

Good Luck!
