Juniper tree dying? #873339

Asked June 16, 2024, 4:47 PM EDT

I have a juniper tree on the side of my house that is about 3 -4 years old. It’s always been very healthy but in the last month I have noticed the lower inside branches are browning and the bark is peeling. I don’t notice any pests or fungus that I can see. I watered it recently but it hasn’t really been that dry recently. The area seems to drain well since it is planted on a slight mound. Any idea what is going on? Can it be saved?

I am not sure what is going on with your juniper tree. From the research I have done only one reliable source has come close to the issues you describe and is observed in the photos. Botryosphaeria Canker may be the cause of the die back but I can not determine it to be the case from the pictures. Below is the website I found about this disease.

I recommend contacting as ISA certified arborist to look at the tree. That individual will be an expert in tree diseases and can provide information and options on what to do for the juniper. To locate an ISA certified arborist in your area go to the website below.

I wish you success in determining what is going on with your tree and finding a solution to resolve the issues.
