We had som ajuga in a garden and decided to get rid of it there. That went well but now we are finding it in the grass yard. Looking for best way to get rid of it.

Hi Brian, thanks for the question.

Ajuga can be a hard weed to get rid of. Larg patches can be baked under black plastic which can kill anything under it.  Hand digging, being sure not to leaf any root segments, is laborious but effective.  Using a good broadleaf herbicide is a lot more convenient.  A product with active ingredients 2,4-D + MCPP + Dicamba is a good post emergent broad leaf herbicide for use in lawns. Be sure to read and follow the label.  The label is the law.

I hope this helps.

Thank you, I will review the herbicides that I have to determine if I need a new one or if what I have should work.

I had found this article about a different invasive and found it very helpful and wondered if Ajuga would rate a similar type of article. Or if the was another way to help inform people how to best get rid of different invasive.

Thank you

Brian

Hi Brian,

Unfortunately, many "aggressive" horticultural plants have seemed to have escaped being labeled as invasive even though they can really ruin an eco-system. Part of that has more to do with the commercial side of things.  These "aggressive" plants made money so there seemed to be reluctance to say anything negative about these species.  More recently, it seems we are seeing more openness to let people know the invasive potential of plants. Hopefully we will now see more articles like the one in the link.
