Planting in windy southern coastal areas #873333

We are building a home on a ridge in coastal North Bend( not the city of Bend). It gets strong winds from the south in the winter and very strong winds from the
North in the summer. There are numerous deer in the area.
I am 76 years old and don't have the energy I use to have. The area around the house is not large. I want to plant some fruit trees, and landscape whatever areas I can with native grasses, native plants, and perennials that can take the weather and are drought tolerant and deer resistant. We are planning on fencing a small area to place raised planters for vegetables and to plant roses, hydrangeas, Rhode drums and others that deer like to eat.
Our longevity is limited so we would like to plant larger plants ,bushes and trees that will grow faster so it would help us if you can tell us which nurseries sell the type of plants I have mentioned in this medsage. Any sources for information will be greatly apprciated.
Thank you, Ivonne Richardson.

Thanks for your question. Here is a helpful Oregon State Extension publication on fruit trees - "Growing Tree Fruits and Nuts in the Home Orchard" - https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/pub/ec-819-growing-tree-fruits-nuts-home-orchard. Area IV (coastal region) includes North Bend. Apples, cherries, plums would probably work.
Here is another OSU Extension publication about using Oregon native plants - "Gardening with Oregon Native Plants West of the Cascades" - https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/pub/ec-1577-gardening-oregon-native-plants-west-cascades
Deer-resistant plants - when they are hungry enough deer will eat almost anything. Here is an Oregon State Extension article - https://extension.oregonstate.edu/gardening/techniques/best-deer-defense-are-plants-they-find-offensive
With respect to finding sources (nurseries, garden centers) near you for these plants, recommend you contact Coos County Master Gardeners in Myrtle Point. Here is their contact information: phone - <personal data hidden> Ext. 25295;
