Young apple tree damage #873322

Asked June 16, 2024, 2:37 PM EDT

My young apple tree sustained damage during recent MN storm. Whole top of tree broke off. Remove and replace or can I trim in a way beneficial for regrowth?

Thank you for writing back.
I am sorry that tree is not worth saving.
A side note, tree guards like that tube are a great idea to keep rabbits and mice from eating bark of young trees BUT they should only be on from November through mid April.  Left on too long they can soften the bark with condensed water, opening the bark to damage from bacterial and fungal and insect diseases.
