Measuring hay moisture #873309

I am trying to get into growing hay. I am looking for information on hay moisture measuring instruments. There are many options and I need to know what is best. There is a “windrow” moisture sensor and many bale measuring instruments. What do I need? To me measuring hay moisture before it is baled makes the most sense but is this really the best method? Do I also need to measure moisture in the bales? If so which instrument is the best to use?

Hello,
My favorite publication on making hay,

Moisture meters range in price from under $100 to over $300. If you will be producing hay to sell to others on a large scale, you will want a high quality meter. If the hay production is very small scale, maybe the cheaper meter will suffice. Your choice, but remember, hay fires happen every year. See Hay Fires: Prevention & Control.
