what happened to my poppies #873287

Asked June 15, 2024, 11:29 PM EDT

I had a garden with poppies that were growing well. They were very healthy with lots of leaves, strong stems, and full of buds. The plants were about 8 inches or more tall. I left on a Wednesday and returned on Saturday to find not a trace of the plants I had left. There are no parts of the plants to be found anywhere. What could have possibly happened to my plants?

Expert Response

Hi Cynthia,

I honestly have no idea! Was there any digging? Was the plant starting to turn brown and go dormant? I haven't heard of this before.

It's common for Oriental poppies, following bloom, to start to brown and die back. They don't like the hot weather. But as to why it's totally gone and absent from your landscape, I don't have an explanation.

Hello
There is a new hole on the otherside of the fence. It is a rather small one though.
There is no digging on the srra where my plants were.
I will look for before and after photos of the area.
Thank you for trying but there has to be and explanation as to why there are completely no signs of the plants. We will keep researching.
