pruning rose bushes #873212

Asked June 15, 2024, 10:58 AM EDT

We pruned our rose bushes back this spring. They have grown and bloomed impressively. I started cutting off some of the remains of the blossoms and was thinking because they are actually overgrown, would it be OK to also prune again. In a week or so, Japanese beetles will be arriving and I don't leave blossoms on the bushes anyway because of them.

Expert Response

Pruning of roses is normally done in spring. I don't think there's any serious harm pruning now, but after that you should be done until next spring. See this page:

Hope this helps.
