Hi, we need your expertise diagnosing what is wrong with our front tree. We noticed the leaves are already falling off. Typically it has very thick leaves, you can see all the tree branches. It looks sparse now. They get black/brown spots on the leaves. We are not 100% sure what type of tree it is. We thought a fruitless apple tree of some variation. It flowers white in the spring. Your help and direction is greatly appreciated!

Expert Response
It looks like a fungal leaf spot. They rarely kill a tree but your tree is struggling. For a positive identification a sample should be submitted to the plant disease clinic. Fungal diseases can be diagnosed with a microscope and some testing.
