Honeysuckle native dying #873149

Asked June 14, 2024, 4:05 PM EDT

Hi- we have a honey suckle bush that we planted about 5 years ago. It has always been doing fine ever since we put a cage around it close to the time we first purchased it from MN Landscape Alternatives. It looked great about 4 weeks ago but now it seems to be dying section by section, with the leaves all turning brown and then falling off. You can notice a change day to day. There is only one small section left that is still looking fine with blooms and leaves. No changes have been made to the soil and we have not been watering due to all of the rain. Any suggestions / tips would be appreciated since we love this bush. Thank you!

Thanks for the pictures Tracie.

This may be honeysuckle leaf blight, something that thrives in wet weather.

You should remove the cage and rake up all fallen leaves, now and in the fall. The disease overwinters on dead leaves. Also pull any tall grass under the plant that will affect air circulation.

Hope this helps. Thanks.

There is nothing more to do this year except try to manage the disease and hope the plant comes back next year. Sorry.
