Possible diseased plant? #873128

Asked June 14, 2024, 2:43 PM EDT

Hi, I'm a new gardener and I just got a plot in my neighborhood's community garden here in Baltimore. The plot next to me hasn't been claimed yet, and I'm noticing some leaves with strange spots reaching over into my plot. Can you tell me what these spots are/browning around the edges is and if I need to take any particular action to make sure my plants aren't also affected? Thank you, -Charli

Expert Response

Hi,

This is a mock strawberry plant which is non-native but very widespread. It is usually considered a weed in the garden. It looks like it has some kind of fungal leaf spot but it shouldn't matter since you would want to pull this plant so it doesn't encroach on your plot. The leaf spot could be host specific or potentially could transfer but should not be a widespread problem.
