Brown chard/ ailing agastache and anemone #873079

Asked June 14, 2024, 9:38 AM EDT

Can you tell me what’s wrong with the chard in the photo? It seems to be growing vigorously but quickly the leaves go brown. Also, something seems to be eating leaves on agastache and anemone (and maybe a few other plants similarly in the garden). Thanks for your help with diagnosis and treatment suggestions.

Hi,

The chard symptoms look indicative of Spinach/beet leaf miner (see the tab under the heading). There are management tips on the page as well. Unfortunately those look rather severely damaged. Try to snip off the worse looking leaves and see if the new growth as the same issues. It is too late to use a row cover now since they will be trapped inside.

The other plants are showing Four-lined plant bug damage. It is common and doesn't overly harm the plants. They should move on or get eaten by predatory insects soon.
