Trees #873036

Asked June 13, 2024, 7:17 PM EDT

I have a 30-year-old white pine that all the needles were brown and it had poison ivy vines on it, which I took off and it had plenty of cones on it again this year I have about 60 hybrid poplar trees and about 15 of them are dead so I'd like to know what I can do to keep the other ones from getting the disease? If that's what it is

Expert Response

Hello,
The white pine has probably succumbed to one of several fungal diseases that kill white pine here in Michigan. I cannot tell you from this photo what is killing any of your trees for sure.  I can tell you that what killed your white pine is different from what is affecting your poplars.  It would be helpful if you took a closer look at any of the poplars that are not dead but showing some symptoms.  Taking good photos of the trunk, root areas, and leaves can be helpful when trying to diagnose a plant. You can submit them to this thread. The other option would be to consult an arborist to come on site and look at the remaining trees for clues as to what may be going on. We always recommend an ISA-certified arborist- you can find one here: https://www.treesaregood.org/findanarborist
