Would Crocosmia Lucifer survive winter if planted in a plastic half barrel?

Hello,
Lucifer' is the hardiest variety of Crocosmia
and has no problem surviving Michigan winters, Zone 5-9. With that being said, I would not leave the barrel outside where the roots may freeze above ground. If possible, move the barrel into a garage or protected area from freezing winds of winter.
